The Robot Goes Another Round with Week 2 NFL Predictions (Plus Week 1 Results!)

"Cleatus" the Fox football robot

If the robot keeps picking games this well, we're going to have to keep using this picture.

Week 2 of the 2010 NFL season is upon us, and since it’s Friday we’re continuing our quixotic quest to find the best, easiest way to actually win your football game picking contest. Way way back in Week 1, we used the magic of the Accuscore robo-brain, as reported on ESPN.com to predict the week’s games. The results? Well, they were… pretty good, actually

The robot won 12 games (out of 16), which puts us squarely at the top of our pool. Is it a fluke? We won’t know until we try it again this week, but we’re expecting big things. On to the picks and our comments!

(winning team in bold)

Cardinals at Falcons
Matty Ice and the Falcons will rebound at home against Derek Anderson’s Cardinals. Then again, we’d expect any team to rebound agains Derek Anderson’s Cardinals.

Ravens at Bengals
Even at home Batman and Robin can’t move the ball on Baltimore.

Chiefs at Browns
Given Kansas City’s impressive performance Monday night, we’re surprised the robot’s picking Cleveland. Picks like this will make or break this system.

Bears at Cowboys
Please allow us to use this image as our comment on this matchup.

Eagles at Lions
With Kevin Kolb out, Mike Vick might prove to be the answer to the Eagle’s offensive woes. That or Detroit will be the answer.

Bills at Packers
Buffalo is terrible, Green Bay is not. Hot suicide pool tip: pick against Buffalo except when they play a division game. In that case pick whoever’s playing the Rams or Browns.

Steelers at Titans
Last week, Pittsburgh played at home against a team without Chris Johnson and won. That’s not the case this week.

Dolphins at Vikings
Miami plays another road game but this time takes a loss. Unless Favre throws 3 or more picks, which is always a possibility.

Buccaneers at Panthers
Have we mentioned the fact that Tampa Bay is terrible at football? Don’t pick them unless they’re playing the Browns.

Seahawks at Broncos
Seattle actually looked OK last week, while Denver did not. The robot likes the Broncos at Mile-High though.

Rams at Raiders
The Rams make everyone look good!

Patriots at Jets
Losing two home games in a row in a brand-new stadium to open the season is the price Rex Ryan and the Jets pay for their hubris.

Jaguars at Chargers
San Diego is a good team that should really try winning at the beginning of the season some time. They’ll give it a try this week.

Texans at Redskins
Both teams are coming off of huge surprise division wins, but the edge goes to Houston since Washington can’t move the ball.

Giants at Colts
Ladies! It’s the hot Manning-on-Manning action you’ve been dying to see! Once again, Peyton will prove to be the master, Eli, the plucky sidekick.

Saints at 49ers
The NFL people probably thought they’d scheduled themselves a great game here until San Francisco played their Week 1 game.

Can the robot continue its dominance? Is our pool really that weak? Tune in next Friday to find out! And since it’s the weekend and there are lots of opportunities for trouble–let’s be careful out there
