We get that the Lion is a Mac OS 10.7 hint, and yes, the lion is the "king of the jungle," but couldn't Apple have gone with a more exotic big cat like cougar or lynx? What about wildcat, or–for the hipsters-tabby?
Tomorrow, Apple will once again get tons and tons of free publicity for whatever they want at their “Back to the Mac” press event. All too aware that as much as we question all this publicity we also are active enablers, we’ll never the less take another stab at predicting what Steve Jobs and Co. will unveil. It’s really the least we can do, both for Apple and the public, considering both our stellar prediction record and the fact that our predictions are based on nothing but what we’ve read on the internet and our own limited intellects.
Prediction time!
First, the big new(ish) product announcement, a revamped MacBook Air in not one, but two sizes with a new design, better battery life and snappier processor. We’re guessing these babies will be available right away. Our official guesses:
- 11″ and 13″ screen sizes available
- 8 hours or more of battery life
- Flash-based storage
Next, we’re guessing we’ll learn something about Mac OS 10.7. Here’s what we think:
- Based on Apple’s event invite, the new OS update has to be called “Lion.”
- Integration of iOS features including scrollbars.
- A mechanism for iOS application interaction with Mac OS computers (this is just a random guess on our part).
Finally, we’ll hear some miscellaneous stuff like:
- A release window for iOS 4.2. We’re predicting the week of November 8th.
- iLife 11, which will mark the demise of iDVD and the addition of an entirely new app. Like GarageBand, this app will look really cool, but you’ll never use it.
- Absolutely nothing about a Verizon iPhone.
- An availability announcement regarding the White iPhone 4 (We’re not saying it will be available, just that something will be said about it).
Check back tomorrow afternoon to see how we’ve done, along with our reactions to whatever was announced.
